My name is Adam Lambert, a creative writer and strategic marketer looking for that special beehive in the Utah Valley. I've dedicated eight years to the writing life—over half of those inside ad agencies—and I'm looking to make a serious commitment to a company whose values and ambitions align with my own. Having done my due diligence on Backcountry, I trust I'm looking in the right place.
Assuming you have at least a cursory knowledge of my education and background by now, I won’t waste any time here checking boxes or touting grad school. Instead I want to unpack some relevant skills and personal qualities that I believe fit your description.
You reference the “ability to think strategically about the narrative and audience” in describing what your Head of Copy should bring to the table. Instead of claiming these traits like most applicants, I’ve unpacked a couple portfolio items to show you. Hard evidence is always a great way to do some quick vetting in the hiring process.
You also mention it’s the writer’s job to create content that “resonates with the intended target audience.” I believe you accomplish this by creating strategy aimed at your audience’s core concerns, then continually optimize through analytics. This is a process I call “distillation,” where you take the various ingredients from your client, run them through the context of the market (or culture), and produce an influential message. With your messaging in its most potent form, you launch, then test continually to get a better product.
What I’m pointing out here is a shared foundation on which we create content. Backcountry’s existing work shows me you value quality, human-oriented messaging, and that messaging tells me you have a vested interest in the success of your business. I believe that shared, creative underpinning will allow me to hit the ground running at Backcountry, which is exactly what I’m looking to do.
While I’m certain you’ll find other candidates who meet the practical requirements for this job, Im offering a common philosophy and (what I’m convinced will be) the perfect culture fit.
If my portfolio meets your standards, I’d love the opportunity to prove the rest in person.
