My name is Adam Lambert, a creative writer and strategic marketer looking for that special beehive in the Utah Valley. I've dedicated eight years to the writing life—over half of those inside ad agencies—and I'm looking to make a serious commitment to a company whose values and ambitions align with my own. Having done my due diligence on Pattern, I trust I'm looking in the right place.

Assuming you have a cursory knowledge of my education and background, I won’t waste any time here checking boxes or touting grad school. Instead I want to unpack some relevant skills and personal qualities that I believe fit your description. I’ve also taken the liberty of unpacking a couple portfolio items to give you some context. Hard evidence is great way to do some quick vetting in the hiring process.

You’re looking for someone to “lead the charge in building…compelling, informative, top-notch content,” and you’ve undoubtedly found capable applicants. Generating truly original content takes creativity, but many creatives aren’t open to optimizing afterward. Simply put, I’m KPI-minded, but on a foundation of imagination and innovation. I want the analysis, but I also want the freedom to explore content paths distinct from your competitors. Like you, I hypothesize, I test, and I geek out. Without that exploration, you’ll forever follow those willing to fail.

I’m also a doer, and tend to ask for forgiveness rather than permission. Of course this won’t be the case my first week on the job, but superfluous process is the main bottleneck to production in any marketing department. You don’t become a game changer without a “bias for action,” and I’m unabashedly prejudice when it comes to talking vs. walking.

Ultimately, I want to create content that resonates with your target audience, and properly reflects the Pattern brand. I’ll work to focus messaging on your audience’s core concerns, then continually optimize it through analytics. I call this “distillation”—taking the various insights from your marketing team, then running them through the context of the market to produce an influential message. With your message in its most potent form, you launch, then continually test to improve your product.

What I’m pointing out here is a shared foundation on which we create content. Pattern’s existing work shows me you value quality, human-oriented messaging, and that messaging tells me you have a vested interest in the success of your partners. I believe that shared, creative underpinning will allow me to hit the ground running at Pattern, which is exactly what I’m looking to do.

While I’m certain you’ll find other candidates who meet the practical requirements for this job, Im offering a common philosophy and (what I’m convinced will be) the perfect culture fit.

If my portfolio meets your standards, I’d love the opportunity to prove the rest in person.

Sincerely,
Adam L.
